it’s 2025 and i’m trying to find ‘the good life”

What does it even mean to you, “the good life”? Come with me as we work out for ourselves what does it mean to live a good life.

So some background – I don’t know about you but makeup and fashion online can sometimes miss the mark when it comes to fitting into my lifestyle. Like a bra from the 90s, it feels like I’m supposed to strive to fit it and not the other way around. I don’t know how it got this way but I know that we’re in control and can make this what we want.

I work in Digital Media (and recently dipped into International Development for 6 months), and yet the content I see online all assumes I have 60 minutes every morning to prime, conceal and blend my undereye region. (I’m yet to have any make-up artist conceal my undereye region convincingly btw.) I could probably find the time to do this… but I don’t want to. I’m learning Spanish, playing latin jazz piano, working on a documentary, spending time with the boy.

I want to look like myself, but polished, just a little bit elevated from my usual working from home scenario. [This is surely where one would include the requisite cliche about French women]. I want to look pulled together but I also want to have fun and lightness about the whole thing. It matters how you’re perceived and present yourself to the world, but it also doesn’t. It’s more important to me that I feel like myself, feel strong, that I feel inspired by my work. It also matters that I’m not so self-aware of how I’m being perceived that it gets in the way of finding adventure, running for a tram or connecting with the people I meet in a day. I want to have fun with a new liquid blush from Hourglass or some Sexy Brut Tall jeans from Sezane, but then I also want to move on and focus on the rest of my day.

Has anyone noticed the difference in how women are dressing post-COVID? It felt like the usual edicts of no jeans in the workplace! Women should be tastefully made up! High heels for women! are just gone and we are now wearing so much more of what we want. It’s a great time to throw out the usual rule book of fashion and the tired, boring advice that every lady must own a trench, a white shirt and a Breton top, and make your own rules. Don’t know where the start? Even more fun! Let’s explore together.

So here it is, a blog that is not about telling you what to do but instead a little inspiration to make you one step closer to living your good life, whatever that means to you.
